Boo at the Zoo

Boo at the Zoo returns to Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Thursdays through Sundays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. beginning October 1 through October 25. Stroll through the Zoo’s decorated paths, enjoy our Halloween-themed experiences, the Boomerang train and more.

Enjoy trick-or-treating at more than a dozen candy stations on Wayside Furniture Way, meet-and-greets with costumed characters, dance the Monster Mash Dance Party presented by CrossCountry Mortgage and enjoy free rides on the Boomerang train courtesy of MetroHealth. The first 1,000 guests each day receive a complimentary trick-or-treat bag courtesy of Meijer. Additional entertainment includes the Kooky Cellists, Rockin’ Robots, performances by magician Rick Smith Jr., a hay maze and more.

Step into the new Boo at the Zoo VIP Experience—a festive, all-ages safari tent designed to elevate your night at Boo at the Zoo. Enjoy kid-approved bites, adult-friendly favorites, and candy, perfect to start your evening as you stroll the Zoo. Create memories with some of our favorite costume characters who will roam the tent for photos, greetings, and memorable moments. Play hands-on games designed for families, from corn hole to giant Jenga.

Boo at the Zoo Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is admission to the event?

The cost for Boo at the Zoo is $20 for Zoo members and $22 for non-members per individual ticket purchased in advance, before the day of the event. Zoo members can purchase a 4-Pack bundle of tickets for $69 while non-members can purchase the 4-Pack bundle for $77 before the day of the event. 

Individual tickets purchased on the same day as the event are $22 for Zoo members, $24 for non-members. Members purchasing a 4-Pack bundle on the same day as the event pay $71 while non-members pay $79 for the day of 4-Pack bundle until 4:00 p.m. After that time, the 4-Pack bundle is no longer available.

The 4-Pack bundle works for guests of all ages. All four people must be present at the same time to gain entry. The price includes a non-refundable transaction fee of $1.00 per ticket that will be added at check-out for all online ticket purchases. Children under 2 years of age are free. Children ages 2 and older and all adults must have an event ticket for entry.

The Box Office closes at 3:00 p.m. in October but will reopen at 5:00 p.m. to sell Walk-Up Boo at the Zoo tickets until 8:00 p.m.

2. What if I bought a ticket but I haven’t gotten it yet?

Guests should receive eTickets within 15 minutes of their online purchase. If they do not, guests should check their Spam/Clutter/Junk folders. Ticket orders from the Zoo are emailed from noreply-zoosales@clevelandmetroparks.com  Try searching for that sender in your inbox. Guests that still cannot locate their purchase in their email can call the Zoo at 216.635.3391 to have their tickets resent. Guests can also check in at the Guest Resource Center upon arrival to have hard-copy tickets printed.

Guests may also retrieve their own online ticket order by going back to the online store and clicking MENU in the top left corner and then selecting “Order Lookup”. Past online order history can be retrieved by entering the email address and phone number used during the original purchase process.

Guests can now add their tickets to their virtual wallets. Please make sure to add EACH ticket.

3. How do members get their discounted tickets?

Members should log in to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo website using the email and password associated with their membership. Once logged in correctly, members can access the reduced-price ticket from the "Member Tickets" section of the webstore. If you have any questions regarding your Membership, you may contact Cleveland Zoological Society between 9 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. at 216.635.3329.

4. Are there discounts for children?

Children under 2 enter the Zoo and Boo at the Zoo for free. Ages 2 and up require a ticket.

5. Do parents need a ticket?

Yes, everyone attending Boo at the Zoo must purchase a ticket for entry. Everyone with a ticket can participate fully in the event, including the treat stations.

6. Should we bring our own candy bags?
Yes, we encourage participants to bring their own reusable bags. The first 1,000 guests each night receive a complimentary trick-or-treat bag courtesy of Meijer. Bags, if available, will be distributed in the Welcome Plaza as guests enter the event.

7. Will you have treats for kids that are allergic and/or cannot have candy?

Yes, treat stations along Wayside Furniture Way will have a variety of treats for guests with individual needs.

8. Will there be food or alcohol available for purchase?

There will be a variety of tasty food options available for purchase throughout the Zoo during these event dates, including guest favorites like burgers, pizza, fries and Mini Melts. Alcohol will be available for purchase at select locations as well. Guests are also welcome to pack a cooler with food and non-alcoholic beverages. Outside alcoholic beverages and glass containers are not permitted.

9. Will the event occur if it rains?

Yes, this is a rain or shine event. No rain checks are available.

10. Do guests dress up in costumes? Is it family friendly?

Yes, Boo at the Zoo is a family-friendly event. Guests are encouraged to wear fun (not scary) costumes. Guests that wear a full mask/face covering must remove it while in motion to maintain a full field of vision, but the mask may be worn when stationary.

12. Can I rent a stroller during Boo at the Zoo?

Yes, our rentals are located in the Welcome Plaza on the right side of the entry gate. We have wagons and double strollers available to rent. Wagons are $15 plus tax and double strollers are $12 plus tax.

13. Can I rent a wheelchair or electric scooter during Boo at the Zoo?

Yes, our rentals are located at the Main Entrance next to the Gift Shop. We have push wheelchairs and electric scooters available to rent. We highly suggest that guests reserve wheelchairs and electric scooters in advance. You can place a reservation for a scooter or wheelchair by calling the Gift Shop at 216.661.7603.

Pricing:

  • Push Wheelchair: $12 plus tax
  • Electric Scooter: $30 plus tax, weather permitting as electric scooters will not be available if it is raining 

14. Is my pet or service animal permitted to attend the event with me?

Pets are not allowed. If you have a service animal, please notify Zoo staff and we will assist you. Guests with service animals will be advised upon entry into all restricted areas that a service animal is not permitted during a Zoo visit.

15. What parts of the Zoo will I NOT be able to see?

The event footprint for Boo at the Zoo does not extend to the whole zoo.  Zones not included are the Primate, Cat, and Aquatics  building, Wilderness Trek, Primate Forest, and the interior pathway of African Savanna. Along the event pathway, animals will be less visible at night, and depending on their needs may no longer be visible after 8:00 p.m.

16. Are there items I should not bring to the zoo?

Weapons, glass bottles, disposable straws, bicycles, skateboards, recreational scooters, Heely’s shoes, roller skates, hoverboards, electric powered toy cars/trucks, remote controlled cars, drones, sporting balls, grills and pets are prohibited inside the Zoo. Scary costumes are discouraged.

  1. What is included in the VIP Package for Boo at the Zoo?

This exclusive option is available on Friday and Saturday nights and is limited to 5 groups per evening.

The cost of the VIP Package is $481 and includes a non-refundable $1 transaction fee for online processing.

The VIP Package includes:

  • Boo at the Zoo event admission for up to 8 people (ages 2 and older) with unlimited complimentary 4D movie experiences at the theater and train rides around Australian Adventure
  • Private covered area for your group
  • Fall favorite menu items served in your personal VIP tent between 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
    • Fresh seasonal fruit
    • White cheddar macaroni and cheese
    • BBQ chicken
    • Chicken nuggets made fresh upon arrival
    • Harvest salad
    • Water and assorted sodas

Advance online VIP ticket sales end at 6:00 p.m. the day before the event. The VIP Package is not available as a “walk up” purchase. 

Guests that have purchased the VIP Package will need to check in at the Guest Resource Center at the front of the Zoo upon arrival to have their admission QR code scanned and get their VIP access wristband. Each guest should have a copy of the admission QR code if they are arriving separately from the original purchaser.

  1. Is the cost of the VIP Package less is I don’t have 8 people?

No. The VIP Package is sold per personal tent and is the same price regardless of group size. Group size is limited to no more than 8 people to comfortably fit in the tent.
